Information about HIV/AIDS
AIDS is an infectious disease that attacks the immune system. AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, which means a set of symptoms caused by a virus that attacks the immune system and is not hereditary. It is caused by a virus called HIV or VIH (Human Immunodeficiency Virus).
The HIV is found in all organic liquids of a person who has the virus: blood, semen, saliva, tears, cum, colostrum, urine, uterine and vaginal secretions, and pre-seminal fluid. However, only blood, pre-seminal fluid, semen, vaginal fluids, and breast milk contain a sufficient concentration to produce transmission.
A person living with HIV is the one who has had contact with the virus. A patient is the person in whom diseases caused by immune deficiency produced by the virus have been detected. The person living with the virus does not have symptoms.

How to prevent it? 1) Use a condom.
It doesn't matter that you use other effective birth control methods like pills, injections, or patches to prevent pregnancies. The only way to protect yourself from HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) is by using a condom every time you have sex. Condoms are the only method that can protect you from HIV/AIDS and STIs. For protection to be effective, you need to use it correctly and consistently every time you have sex.
2) Avoid contact with blood
To avoid the transmission of HIV through bloodborne routes, it is necessary not to exchange or share needles and syringes. In the case of injecting drugs, use a new syringe each time. Also, it is recommended that all procedures involving any cut or puncture (pinprick) be performed with disposable or sterilized material, such as in dentistry, manicuring, tattoos, or medical practices, among others.

To avoid the transmission of the mother's virus to the baby, it is recommended that every pregnant woman undergo an HIV analysis with her first prenatal checkup. If the result is positive, the pregnant woman must follow medical instructions and apply care measures to prevent transmission to the baby: clinical control and treatment, and suspension of breastfeeding. In this way, the chances of transmitting the virus to the baby are almost nil.

The only way to know if someone contracted HIV is through a laboratory test. Many people living with HIV are healthy and don't know they have it, so it's important that you take the test.

El VIH se encuentra en todos los líquidos orgánicos de aquella persona que tiene el virus: sangre, semen, saliva, lágrimas, leche, calostro, orina, secreciones uterinas y vaginales y el líquido preseminal. Pero solamente la sangre, el líquido preseminal, el semen, fluidos vaginales y la leche materna presentan una concentración suficiente como para producir la transmisión.
