Rose Freymuth-Frazier is a painter born and raised in the city of Nevada, California. After graduating from the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, she would move to New York City to study oil painting, where she currently lives and works. Seeking a rigorous apprenticeship, whose technique most schools could not offer, she studied traditional painting techniques full-time. Her first apprenticeship was for two years under the tutelage of Steven Assael in his New York studio and the second with Odd Nerdrum in Norway.
Rose Freymuth-Frazier's work is mainly based on portraits of solitary women, sometimes accompanied by animals or disposable objects. But it is especially the female figure who centers her attention, using a complex language of symbolism to address universal themes such as child development, sexuality, loss of innocence, gender roles, androgyny, and body image in our society today.
Technique and message unite thus in a unique combination of classicism and contemporaneity, encompassing diverse cultural references and exploring different aspects of human nature.
