The judicial proceedings were long and expensive, with the unfortunate result that Trinity lost custody of her daughter. After the trials, she moved to California to be close to her daughter. The combination of her marital problems, legal issues gave rise to clinical depression as a result of her addiction to both prescribed and non-prescribed analgesics. Her struggle against addiction ended on October 24, 1998, when she died from an accidental overdose. She was only 35 years old, but with her poor health, she appeared many years older. Ironically, before her death, she had been working as part of her recovery therapy, on her autobiography.
