Couples who go for it, attention-grabbing bodily dimensions, 'hard sex' scenes that are presented as something everyday. Pornographic cinema abounds in myths that frustrate men and leave women pretty badly off. We're talking about the topic with two experts from different fields.

In pornographic films, most actors have large foreskins. 'While this is true, the myth here lies in believing it's normal', says Dr. Fabián Gómez to Entremujeres, a urologist specializing in sex and scientific advisor to the Boston Medical Group. 'Those proportions are not the measure of the average man. It's important to clarify this topic to avoid odious comparisons and future frustrations for the man and his partner'.

In porn we usually see how the relationship quickly ends in genitality without stopping at kisses, caresses, or any type of previous game. 'Explicit sex is that, pure sex lacking eroticism, that is to say, all the condiments that enrich a sexual encounter. What you don't see is the time actors take to 'warm up' to be convincing in front of the camera. Let's not forget it's film and, as such, the story should dispense with accessory circumstances', warns Dr. Walter Ghedin, psychiatrist and sexologist.

It's common to see the male actor ejaculate a large amount of semen. This isn't the normal average for the population, as the usual amount of ejaculation is 1.5 to 4 ml, Gomez details. Something similar happens with women. Female ejaculation is a white secretion, sometimes abundant, that occurs before or during orgasm. Not all women have this type of secretion and it's not because there's any pathology; it's a physiological response that may appear or not.

In XXX movies we can see various positions for performing sexual acts. It's important to note that the actors and actresses are trained for those types of roles. There are positions that are really very uncomfortable and have a great visual impact, but they don't necessarily make sex more enjoyable, quite the opposite, explains Gómez.

The female characters tend to make an exaggerated display of the climax's arrival. 'In reality, the orgasmic response is changing: sometimes it's intense in pleasure, other times more poor, there are multiorgasms and others not. In short, sexual response is variable and influenced by different factors such as stress, desire, and sexual expertise of the couple, type of stimulation received, menstrual cycle phase, and routine', Ghedin lists.

In the porn movie you can see many scenes of violent sex (hard sex) or that are really aggressive. “According to my experience, most patients and their partners prefer to be treated gently and sweetly to perform the sexual act, or at most with great intensity and passion, but not violently”, Gómez says.

In porn movies, certain fetishist nods appear: erotic lingerie, stylish shoes (with heel or stilettos), tight stockings and disguises, among others. Even the scenery impresses deliberately 'kitsch', as hotels usually are.

Let's imagine a scene from porn movies: the woman finds her partner having sex with her friend and joins in to practice a furious 'menage a trois'. Dr. Gómez debunks it: 'let's think about how absurd the situation is and bring it into our daily lives: what would happen if our partner found us having sex with our friend? Is it more likely that they would join us in bed or eliminate us from their life?'

In gay porn films directed at the public, men are stylized, muscular, stereotypical of a rough male and well-endowed. The previous game is very short and the relationship has penetration as its object, which does not occur so in reality, Ghedin notes. With lesbian relationships also, it's lied to. The reason: men who like to see two or more women having sex consume them. Films do not show reality and always expose one of them 'acting like a man', that is, assuming an active role, and the other woman, with a passive role, adds the doctor.

In the XXX, the maids, gardeners, secretaries, salesmen, and sodas, for example, are always beautiful and spectacularly physical. Not only that, but they're also willing to have sex with the protagonist. 'As we can quickly divine, although it may occasionally happen to us, this is not usual in real life', notes Gómez.

Porn movies abound in 'lies' to achieve their goal: stimulating the viewer, generally men. This doesn't mean that women don't get stimulated watching movies; it's just that sexual relations are skewed by the masculine gaze, explains Ghedin.

We shouldn't lose sight of the fact that a movie is only that: fiction made for actors. What we see most of the time has little to do with reality. Just as we're aware that action, horror, suspense or other genre movies are acted out, we should consider the same for pornographic ones. They're just another film genre, notes Gómez.

So, do we need to eliminate XXX from our cinematic billboards? No way, the recommendation is to use it as a source of more eroticism, but without forgetting to enjoy the pleasure of having sex according to each one's possibilities.
