Somnophilia (from Latin somnus = to sleep and Greek -filia = love), or the Sleeping Beauty syndrome, is a paraphilia in which sexual excitement and/or orgasm are triggered by approaching an unknown person who is sleeping without warning and waking them up with caresses, not using force or violence. Finding eyes closed before being unconscious can also be exciting.
Somnophilia can also refer to having sex with a sleeping partner or rubbing genitals or hands against their body. There is no term to define the reciprocal situation of this paraphilia, which occurs more commonly in fantasy than in reality.
