Betty Dodson was born in Kansas and moved to New York City in 1950 to study art. Nine years later, she married a advertising director named Frederick Stern and the marriage lasted six years before ending in divorce. After which, Dodson embarked on a path of self-discovery and left the art world to become a renowned sex educator who has taught many women how to enjoy their bodies; that is, how to masturbate and have orgasms. Her first book Sex for One was a great success, but it's not the only reason behind her fame. As she has led workshops for over 40 years in which groups of women, and sometimes men, discuss their experiences, explore their body, and even masturbate until they achieve what can be their first orgasm.
