A university student jumped into fame in the last few days after it was discovered that she is a porn actress and acts to pay for her expensive studies.

Miriam Weeks, an American law student at Duke University, jumped to fame and generated a strong scandal in the last few days after it was discovered that she is also a porn actress. The repercussions of this discovery, made by another student from her same university who publicly ventilated it, were so great that her artistic name, Belle Knox, accumulated more Google searches than Pope Francis or Justin Bieber in the last week.

If the University had given me adequate financial resources, I wouldn't have done porn. Duke doesn't have anyone else to blame but itself for causing an enormous financial burden on my family, the young woman explained.

Despite this, Weeks defends her work as an XXX actress: We live in a society where we are very repressed every day. We're told that sex is bad, but making pornography allows you to be able to be free and have sexual autonomy, something incredibly liberating. I think 80% of the world's internet traffic is pornography. And I think probably all people at some point in their life have seen pornography. So I think it's very hypocritical that the same society that consumes me also condemns me.

Finally, the girl ended with her defense, in a text published on Xojane: My decision to do porn to pay for university was private, and was revealed to my fellow students at Duke by another student who had seen me on the internet a few months earlier. Since then I started being harassed and applauded. The internet doesn't dictate my life. My sexuality is not some kind of blackmail to be used against me. It's my life. It's my story.
