Sexsomnia is a sleep disorder that causes one to engage in sex while sleeping. This disorder was originally discovered in 1996, but now it's receiving more attention. Sexsomia includes various sexual behaviors such as caresses, sexual expressions, moans and growls, and penetration.

The Good and Bad of Sex During Sleep

Among the advantages of sex while sleeping are being more assertive and uninhibited than when conscious. People tend to be more adventurous and complacent with their partner, which could help resolve sexual problems. On the other hand, it could affect a relationship if not considering the availability and consent of the partner, who might feel obligated. Sexual relationships in the middle of the night during rest time could leave the partner tired and affect desire when they wake up. Simply wanting to have sex while sleeping could create feelings of insecurity in the partner who may think the person is dreaming about someone else.
